Douglas Lloyd Lunde

Sergeant First Class Douglas Lloyd Lunde, U.S. Army Retired, 63, of 13219 Pennersville Road, Blue Ridge Summit, PA, died Monday, January 12, 2004 in the VA Medical Center, Washington D.C. He had been in failing health since November 17, 2003 and critically ill since December 17, 2003.

Born December 15, 1940 in Bellingham, WA, he was the son of the late Lloyd C. and Sarah R. (Ruby) Lunde.

Mr. Lunde was a graduate of Bellingham High School, Bellingham, WA with the Class of 1958.

He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years in the Signal Corp. He received the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal with five loops, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster. He retired November 1, 1979 with the rank of Sergeant First Class.

He and his wife of 40 years, Mrs. Miriam (Flores) Lunde, were married December 29, 1963 in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

He was a member of the Antietam Radio Association of Hagerstown, MD, and the Chambersburg Radio Club.

He enjoyed working with amateur radio and building model planes and model ships.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Dawn L. Kussman of Hope Mills, NC; two sons, Douglas L. Lunde, Jr. of Denver, CO, and Dale L. Lunde of Fayetteville, PA; six grandchildren; two brothers, Duane J. Lunde and Daniel L. Lunde, both of Bellingham, WA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Michael Lunde in 1983.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 20, 2004 in the Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro, PA. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M., Monday evening in the funeral home.
